I hope to share with you the
information I have gleaned in my search for information on the roots of the
SCEARCE (SCARCE) family that appears to have arrived in America in the early
1700's. Several people have done research, but unfortunately, there is no
complete work that chronicles the family's arrival on the East Coast (Prince
George's County Maryland) We believe the family began in America with the
arrival/birth of William Scearce (Scarce) date of birth 1715, in either
England or Prince George's County Maryland. He was married to Catherine who
was born in 1719. There were four sons??, Nathan, David, Shadrack, and
James. Our line, we believe, descended from James, one of the six
children of William (1715). I would really like to track our ancestors back to England.
Some have said this particular Scearce/Scarce family came from the Sussex
area. Hopefully, I will eventually develop this site so that information can
be shared here. In the interim, if you have anything to share, you may
contact me at:

The most comprehensive work I have seen is the result of the research done by
Mrs. Elizabeth McNamara (1911-1999) in her book
Weakley, Scearce, Arnold
Families of Kentucky
published in 1980. My brother, Charles, purchased two copies from her and gave
me one. She encouraged the sharing of this information so families may
continue their ancestral search. It is more than likely available in The
Library of Congress or National Archives and possibly in some larger
libraries.
